House Republican Rep. Mike Rogers said Sunday that the IRS targeting Tea Party groups and other conservative political organizations during the 2012 election season is an act of “intimidation.”

The agency “engaged in intimidation of political groups,” the Michigan congressman told “Fox News Sunday.” “This should send a chill up your spine.”

The IRS acknowledged Friday that it targeted conservative political groups last year. And on Saturday, a draft of an inspector general's report, to be released in full later this week, shows senior Internal Revenue Service officials knew agents were targeting Tea Party groups as early as 2011.

That information seemingly contradicts public statements by the IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman.

Also on Sunday, Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins told CNN’s “State of the Union” that the IRS’ behavior was chilling and that she was disappointed President Obama so far hasn’t condemned the actions.

“This is truly outrageous and it contributes to the profound distrust that the American people have in government,” Collins said. “It is absolutely chilling that the IRS was singling out conservative groups for extra review. And I think that it’s very disappointing that the president hasn’t personally condemned this.”

However, she acknowledged that White House Press Secretary Jay Carney has said the IRS’ actions should be investigated.

The House Ways and Means Committee said Friday that it will hold a hearing on the issue.
