Air India pilot reportedly left attendants to fly plane while he took a nap

An Air India pilot has been suspended after reportedly leaving the cockpit during a flight to take a nap in business class, leaving two female cabin attendants to man the controls.

The incident happened 33,000 feet in the sky on a 160-passenger flight from Bangkok to Delhi in April, The Telegraph reports.

A complaint said the plane’s co-pilot asked one of the plane’s attendants to take his seat while he disappeared for a bathroom break. Shortly thereafter, the pilot asked another attendant to do the same so he could catch up on his sleep.

Both pilots returned to the cockpit 40 minutes later after one of the attendants accidentally knocked off the plane’s auto-pilot switch, The Telegraph reports.

Air India investigated the reported incident and suspended the pilot and both attendants, but said Friday that passenger safety was never compromised.

The airline said in a statement that both pilots never left the cockpit. However, it confirmed that the auto-pilot switch was turned off, and said the two cabin attendants spent too much time in the front of the plane.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev reportedly on state welfare while delving into radical Islam

One of the men behind last week's deadly attack on the Boston Marathon had received Massachusetts welfare benefits until recently -- during the same period that the alienation he apparently felt as a Chechen in America coincided with a growing embrace of radical Islam.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and his family were living on taxpayer-funded state welfare benefits as recently as last year, the Boston Herald reports, though it remains unclear what kind of benefits they were receiving.

State officials confirmed to the newspaper late Tuesday that Tsarnaev, who was killed during a gun battle with police on Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter.

His younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was captured Friday night and charged with using a weapon of mass destruction. The 19-year-old could face the death penalty if convicted.

The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said Tamerlan Tsarnaev's welfare benefits ended in 2012 when the family stopped meeting income eligibility limits. His wife's attorney has claimed Katherine -- who had converted to Islam -- was working up to 80 hours a week as a home health aide while Tsarnaev stayed at home, the newspaper reports.

“The brothers were not receiving transitional assistance benefits at the time of the incident and have not received any transitional assistance benefits this year," Massachusetts Health and Human Services communication director Alec Loftus told the newspaper in a statement. "The Tsarnaevs’ parents are former recipients of transitional assistance benefits, and both Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev received benefits through their parents when they were younger. Separately, Tamerlan and his family received benefits until 2012, when the family became ineligible based on their income.”

The Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance works "to assist low-income individuals and families to meet their basic needs, increase their incomes and improve their quality of life," the agency's website says.

The benefits offered include food assistance, job assistance, emergency shelter, help for victims of domestic violence, cash aid for families with children, emergency assistance for the elderly and disabled.

Loftus declined to specify to the Herald the type and amount of assistance Tsarnaev and his family were receiving.

'Teen Mom' star Farrah Abraham reportedly filmed sex tape with James Deen

Adult film star James Deen—yes, the one who starred in “The Canyons” with Lindsay Lohan—is claiming to have filmed a sex tape with former “Teen Mom” star Farrah Abrahams.

"We definitely shot a scene, and in my opinion it was very amazingly awesome,” Deen said, according to The Sun.

"I thought she was very nice and super sexy. I had never heard of her before as I don't follow pop culture, but it is nice to see that her fame has not gone to her head."

But Farrah, who was approached by TMZ and questioned about alleged tape, said no such film exists.

On Monday she tweeted: “I have the best relationship with my parents even on a shocking day like today. yes I'm a great daughter & amazing mother #Happy”

Still, a photo recently surfaced of the former MTV star holding hands with Deen, at least proving the two have been spending some time together.

Deen, 27, was quick to dismiss rumors that he and the single mom were an item.

"Not dating at all,” he said, according to The Sun. “I don't know where that picture was taken. Holding hands was to build chemistry and help make her more comfortable.”

And though Abraham is adamant she never filmed a sex tape the wild behavior wouldn’t be completely out of character for the starlet.

Last months, photos surfaced of Abraham partying in lingerie and kissing another woman.

And since her run on MTV’s “Teen Mom” ended in 2012, Abraham has seemingly been desperate to try and hold on to her star status.

In Aug. 2012, she released a song and a music video, which featured her and her daughter, Sophia. She also penned the book “My Teenage Dream Ended,” and created her own pasta sauce with her picture on the label. Abraham has also tried her hand at modeling since “Teen Mom” wrapped, posing in sexy bikini shoots.

Abraham first entered the spotlight in 2009 when she appeared on MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” and gave birth to her daughter on the documentary series. She then returned to the network for the spinoff series “Teen Mom,” which ran for four seasons.

Reps for Farrah did not immediately return FOX 411's request for comment.

Ronald Reagan's boyhood home reportedly demolished

Demolition reportedly began Tuesday on the Chicago apartment building President Ronald Reagan lived briefly as a child.

Chicago’s DNAInfo.com website said crews from Heneghan Wrecking Co. began tearing down the Hyde Park building at 832 E. 57th St., where the 40th U.S. president lived from ages 2 to 3 with his parents in 1914 and 1915.

The University of Chicago purchased the building in 2004 as part of an effort to buy all residential property immediately north of the hospital. It plans to install a plaque at the site to commemorate Washington’s connection.

Preservationists had tried to save the building, the website reports, but those efforts were unsuccessful. The university said it had no immediate plans to build on the property.

“In the short term, the site will be part of a construction staging area, to be used for the new Center for Care and Discovery Hospital and for construction of a new parking garage for the medical center,” university officials said in a statement.

Despite persistent rumors, university officials have repeatedly said the site will not be used for a Barack Obama presidential library.

A billboard in Greensboro, N.C., claims to be from a scorned woman who apparently caught her husband with another woman, MyFox8.com reported.

It is able to withstand a direct hit from an RPG, and has a built-in air supply so it can drive through a chemical weapons attack, but “The Beast” apparently can’t hold its gas.

President Obama’s heavily armored limousine was sidelined in Israel today after the diesel-powered vehicle was inadvertently filled with gasoline, according to Israeli media reports. The News 24 Israeli News agency posted images of the 16,000 pound vehicle being carried on the back of a flatbed truck.

A secret service spokesperson confirmed to a White House pool reporter that the vehicle suffered a malfunction, but would not say if misfueling was the cause. The President was not in the car at the time of the incident.

Although it is designed to look like a Cadillac sedan, The Beast is reportedly built on one of General Motors medium duty truck chassis. Several identical vehicles exist and entered service on President Obama’s first inauguration day, Jan 20th, 2009.

The secret service says it always brings a mechanic on trips with The Beast to deal with issues like this that may occur, and of course has several backup vehicles ready in case one is taken out of service.

Most of the specifications of The Beast are classified as top secret, including whether or not it has one of those stickers on the fuel filler that says “diesel fuel only.”

US reportedly considering direct aid to Syrian rebels

The Obama administration, in coordination with some European allies, is for the first time considering supplying direct assistance to elements of the Free Syrian Army as they seek to ramp up pressure on Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down and end nearly two years of brutal and increasingly deadly violence.

Officials in the United States and Europe said Tuesday the administration is nearing a decision on whether to provide non-lethal assistance to carefully vetted fighters opposed to the Assad regime in addition to what it is already supplying to the political opposition. A decision is expected by Thursday when U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will attend an international conference on Syria in Rome that leaders of the opposition Syrian National Coalition have been persuaded to attend, the officials said.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the shift in strategy has not yet been finalized and still needs to be coordinated with European nations, notably Britain. They are eager to vastly increase the size and scope of assistance for Assad's foes.

Kerry, who was a cautious proponent of supplying arms to the rebels while he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has been consulting with European leaders on how to step up pressure on Assad to leave power. The effort has been as a major focus of his first official trip abroad as America's top diplomat. On the first two stops on his hectic nine-nation tour of Europe and the Middle East, in London and Berlin, he has sought to assure the Syrian opposition that more help is on the way.

In London on Monday, he made a public appeal to opposition coalition leader Mouaz al-Khatib not to boycott the Rome meeting as had been threatened and to attend the conference despite concerns among Assad foes that international community is not doing enough. Kerry and Vice President Joe Biden made private telephone calls to al-Khatib to make the same case.

"We are determined that the Syrian opposition is not going to be dangling in the wind, wondering where the support is, if it is coming," Kerry told reporters after meeting British Prime Minister David Cameron and Foreign Secretary William Hague.

Hague said that the deteriorating conditions in Syria, especially recent scud missile attacks on the city of Aleppo, were unacceptable and that the West's current position could not be sustained while an "appalling injustice" is being done to Syrian citizens.

"In the face of such murder and threat of instability, our policy cannot stay static as the weeks go by," Hague told reporters, standing beside Kerry. "We must significantly increase support for the Syrian opposition. We are preparing to do just that."

The officials in Washington and European capitals said the British are pushing proposals to provide military training, body armor and other technical support to members of the Free Syrian Army who have been determined not to have links to extremists. The officials said, however, that the U.S. was not yet ready to consider such action although Washington would not object if the Europeans moved ahead with the plans.

The Obama administration has been deeply concerned about military equipment falling into the hands of radical Islamists who have become a significant factor in the Syrian conflict and could then use that materiel for terrorist attacks or strikes on Israel.

The Italian government, which is hosting Thursday's conference, said on Monday that the Europeans would use the meeting "to urge the United States' greater flexibility on measures in favor of the opposition to the Assad regime."

"They will be asking, in particular, that `non-lethal' aid be extended to include technical assistance and training so as to consolidate the coalition's efforts in the light of what emerged at the latest meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council," the foreign ministry said in a statement. In a recent meeting, European Union foreign ministers agreed that support to the rebels needed to be boosted.

Officials in Washington said the United States was leaning toward providing tens of millions of dollars more in non-lethal assistance to the opposition, including vetted members of the Free Syrian Army who had not been receiving direct U.S. assistance. So far, assistance has been limited to funding for communications and other logistical equipment, a formalized liaison office and an invitation to al-Khatib to visit the United States in the coming weeks.

The officials stressed, however, that the administration did not envision American military training for the rebels nor U.S. provision of combat items such as body armor that the British are advocating.

The officials said the U.S. is also looking at stepping up its civilian technical assistance devoted to rule of law, civil society and good governance, in order to prepare an eventual transition government to run the country once Assad leaves.

In Europe, meanwhile, Kerry on Tuesday visited Berlin where he met his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, for the first time in his new post, spending more than an hour discussing the Syria conflict. Russia has been a strong supporter of Assad and has, along with China, repeatedly blocked efforts at the United Nations to impose global sanctions against the regime unless it stops the violence that has killed nearly 70,000 people.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the two met for an hour and 45 minutes, spending more than half that time on Syria in what she called a "really serious and hardworking session."

Kerry and Lavrov discussed how they could implement the so-called Geneva Agreement, which is designed to get the Syrian government and rebels to plan a transitional government for the time after Assad leaves office, Nuland said.

Lavrov told Russian news agencies that his talks with Kerry were "quite constructive." On Syria, he said the two reaffirmed their "intention to do all Russia and the U.S. can do. It's not that everything depends on us, but we shall do all we can to create conditions for the soonest start of a dialogue between the government and the opposition."

Syria's foreign minister was in Moscow on Monday and while there expressed a willingness to meet with opposition leaders.

The Syrian National Coalition is skeptical about outside help from the West and threatened to boycott the Rome meeting until a series of phone calls and meetings between Kerry and his ambassadors and Syrian opposition leaders repaired the schism. The council now says it will attend the meeting, but is hoping for more concrete offers of help, including military assistance.
